2019-20 Season

Sunday 29th September 2019 at 3.00 pm in Stokesley Methodist Church

Conductor Tim Jackson
with Peter Francomb (Horn) and Jeremy Harbottle (Tenor)

“Night and Day”

Two masterworks exploring a fundamental feature of our lives – the daily cycle of darkness and light:

“ Night”  Britten Serenade for tenor, horn and strings

Britten chose six  poems offering varied reflections on the character and mood of night-time and set them to music of startling originality, by turns reflective, heroic, sinister and, finally, peaceful.

“Day” Beethoven Pastoral Symphony

Beethoven expresses in music the joyous feelings aroused by  walking through the countryside on a  summer’s day. On our way we’ll spend time by a flowing stream, watch the countryfolk dancing, shelter from a terrifying thunderstorm and listen to the shepherds’ song of thanksgiving after the storm has passed.

The concert opens with Beethoven’s Overture The Creatures of Prometheus.

Tickets £12 adults, under 18s free, at the door or online
