Cleveland Chamber Orchestra was founded by Tim Jackson in 1981. It now enjoys a reputation as one of the best non-professional ensembles in the North-East and performs a wide variety of music in venues across Teesside and North Yorkshire. Past highlights have been a sell-out family concert at Ingleby Mill Primary School, Stockton, and a production of Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro in partnership with the Richmondshire Subscription Concerts Society and Royal Northern College of Music. The orchestra has a long-standing link with Botton Village, a community for adults with learning difficulties in the North York Moors, and performs there most years.
You don’t need any special knowledge to enjoy our concerts, as we choose music which can be appreciated by first timers as well as our many longstanding supporters. We play a variety of works, some well known, some which will be new even to experienced concertgoers. Each concert is divided into two halves of 35/40 minutes with an interval when we serve free drinks and homemade cakes. Children are welcome and FREE.
The Past Concerts page records all our programmes in Date order, and the Galleries have a selection of photos of the Orchestra (now including new ones from April and May 2016). Do also see our YouTube video of the CCO strings playing part of Vivaldi’s “The Seasons” with David Greed at Richmond in Dec 2016.
Membership of the CCO is by invitation.
Our concerts regularly get very favourable write-ups – see our Press Reviews:
“ a really balanced performance of Beethoven’s 4th Symphony” – “the Orchestra both surprised and delighted their Stokesley audience” – “well judged to show off the best qualities of the orchestra: dynamic and stylish strings and the individual musical personalities of the principal wind players and timpanist” – “the orchestra acquitted itself with flying colours throughout” – “ a most sensitive soloist allied to the cream of local musicians gave us a memorable evening”.
